Matching Flowers to Emotional Patterns

Flower Essence Therapy

What are They?

“There is no healing unless there is a change in outlook,

peace of mind, and inner happiness.”  Dr. Edward Bach

Flower Remedies (also called Flower Essences) are water-based infusions made from the flowering part of a plant. They are uniquely used to address profound emotional well-being, soul development and mind-body health.

Flowers make us smile and bring us joy, just by looking at them. They offer us emotional lift through their: color, fragrance, texture, taste, form, gesture, sacred geometric patterns, vast shapes and more. Each feature of a flower is part of Nature’s grand design to bring us into harmony with our Sacred Self. Flowers allow an opportunity for balance and healing from every emotion we can experience.

“Essences offer a two-prong attack in that they not only physically reconnect, balance, and support you electrically; but they also give you insight into what is causing the problem.”  Machaelle Small Wright

Histroy and Explanation

Dr. Edward Bach, a British physician, brought flower remedies to the modern world in the 1920 and 1930’s. He was on a quest for the prevention of disease. After working with vaccines, then homeopathy for 15 years, Bach began to make what he called flower remedies: liquid, pattern-infused solutions made from individual plant flowers. Each remedy contained a specific imprint which brought a balancing, repairing and re-building influence to energetic imbalances in humans; especially at the emotional, mental and spiritual levels. The flowers worked on the “principle of like connecting to like”.  One way to understand this is: the growth characteristics of the flowering plant match that of the human’s specific imbalance.

Bach further explained: “The action of these remedies is to raise our vibrations and open our channels for the reception of the Spiritual Self; to flood our natures with the particular virtue we need, and wash out the fault that is causing the harm. They (flower remedies) are able, like beautiful music or any uplifting thing which gives us inspiration…to bring us peace and relieve our suffering. They cure, not by attacking the disease, but by flooding our bodies with the beautiful vibrations of our Higher Nature, in the presence of which, disease melts away as snow in the sunshine.”

Dr. Bach never meant his 38 flower remedies to be therapeutic in the sense of curing a disease. He did, however, understand that true healing comes from within. Working in London during and after WWI, he saw tremendous emotional trauma. This helped him realize that overcoming mental stress opens the way for a person’s natural healing energy to easily flow through the body, raise the vibrational frequency and allow the God-given healing process to occur.

He believed: “The greatest gift that you can give to others is to be happy and hopeful yourself; then you draw them up out of their despondency.” History shows that the remedies helped Bach as much as they did his patients.

By the 1990’s, the use of flower essences had expanded through-out the world. Many additional flowers were made into the water-infused preparations. In addition the understanding emerged that flower remedies work though the central nervous system to clear deep emotions which have caused subluxations over time. When these energetic blockages are gently removed, one’s health can dramatically improve (emotional, mental, physical and spiritual).

Science has come to understand how the body works. We are complex and amazing systems. The new wave of discovery is about how the elaborate energetic body systems function and interact. Energy medicine is the new frontier of western science, and flower remedies are part of this field.

Additional information about Flower Essences:

History: Flower Remedies were first introduced in the 1930’s by English Physician, Edward Bach, M.D. Searching for a way to help his patient avoid getting ill in the first place, Dr. Bach noticed that people often got sick after traumatic events, or when they seemed to hold harmful emotions deep within. His 38 original essences became very popular. These are easy to research today online or through his books. Since the 1970’s, Richard Katz and Patricia Kaminski have developed more than 160 additional remedies (calling them flower essences) and founded the Terra Flora Gardens, Flower Essence Services and the Flower Essence Society: www.fesflowers.com. Pioneers in the field, their passion to the study and research or flower essences has added much to this powerful field of herbal therapy. Psychologists and counselors around the world use this form of therapy.

How Remedies/Essences Work: Human being is more than a physical body; incorporating a “body” of life energy, a “body” of sensitivity and feelings and a spiritual essence or Self. Flower Remedies are energetic imprints of the life force of plants which interact with these subtle bodies of the human being, and evoke specific qualities within us. We can say they work in a manner similar to inspirational music or art, which carry meaning through the vehicle of sound or light. The flower essences work through the medium of water. They function by the principle of resonance; and they most effective when the formula match the core mental or emotional challenge you face. They do not interfere with any medications.
